One of the most unusual figures in the pantheon of deities in Norse mythology, was Thor Odinson.

Being a mighty god of storms and lightning, he was characterized by a fierce character and sometimes recklessness, but he always emerged victorious in every trial. His ferocity in battle was a model for Viking warriors, and wearing his symbol was meant to bring courage and strength to fight. The lightning strike was identified with Mjolnir, Thor's famous war hammer, which helped him control the lightning, was known to return to his hand after being thrown, and allowed him to distribute blessings.
